As the world continues to divide, people are uniting in the Land of Skate. Children in countries caught up by conflict and inequality are being empowered through skateboarding.
To help Skateistan launch their documentary and demonstrate the fundraising potential of Facebook's latest tool, Facebook LIVE, we created the first live movie premiere. While FB LIVE was still too early in development to actually pull this off, we believed in Skateistan's cause and also, the potential impact of the soon-to-be fully functioning FB Live, so we searched out the best partners and made it happen. We worked with Absolute Productions to create the live premiere of "Land of Skate," with an intro from Skateistan Founder, Oliver Percovich, and discussion with Filmmaker Ty Evans, Editor and Director of Photography Mike Poore, and students of Skateistan. The event connected live feeds from Australia, Cambodia, and Oliver's bungalow in LA, which became our HQ. To amplify the impact of the premiere, we embedded Facebook's fledgling "donate button" during the event, allowing Skateistan to raise money during the virtual premiere and through subsequent recorded viewings.
